FAQ's

Dance classes for the year register in early August and run September – May. A brochure of classes will be mailed out to current students in early July. Registration is generally held in early August.  New students may pick up a class brochure at the Pavilion or Hattendorf Center customer service counter or download it from the download section of this website. Due to the cumulative nature of our program and recital preparations, no students may be added to recital classes after November 1, 2011.  We do offer some non-recital dance classes that are open for enrollment throughout the year; a listing of these classes will be included in the park distict brochure.

Additional details regarding how to register for classes can be found in the 2011-2012 dance handbook which is available at the Pavilion and Hattendorf Center customer service counter.  It can also be viewed online in the download section of this website.

Priority registration is given to returning Pavilion Dance Centre families.  Registration for returning Elk Grove resident students begins at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9 2011.  Registration for returning non-resident students begins at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2011.  Registration for new students begins at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2011.

The Pavilion Dancers start as early as 6 months old in our Mommy (Daddy) and Me classes. We offer classes for all ages, including adults!

Dancers are placed in the appropriate level through the expertise of the Dance Staff. New students will be placed in an age appropriate level and will be immediately assessed by the instructor and moved if necessary.

Dress codes are essential to the success of a dancer. At the Pavilion Dance Centre, we provide our staff with the tools necessary to be the most productive and successful in his/her class. The dress code allows for proper visibility, as dance instructors need to be able to see the students' bodies and very specific details in order to give constructive feedback. Dress codes are mandatory for participation in all Pavilion Dance Centre dance classes.

The Pavilion Dance Centre offers in-house dancewear sales. Specific dancewear sale dates are listed in the event calendar. Many of our patrons support Dance N’ Tees located at 1065 North Salem in Schaumburg. Call (847) 884-5924 for directions. Shoes may also be purchases at Payless and Walmart.

The 5th rule is a special offer to families who participate in numerous classes within our program. For every four dance classes you participate in, your 5th class is free for the whole year. So if your family has two daughters that together take nine classes total you will only pay for eight. This offer does not apply to costume fees and the least expensive class is the class will be given for free.

All dancers have the option to participate in the Spring Dance Recital. To participate in the recital, a dancer must be registered and participate in dance classes for the entire dance year (from September through May). Recital costumes are ordered in late November and early December. Instructors will begin working on the Recital dances in January or February. Excessive absences will prohibit a dancer from participating in the recital. The Pavilion Dance Centre’s recital involves two performances per class and technical rehearsal. Dancers in multiple classes will likely perform in various recitals throughout the weekend. Dancers are required to perform on both days and attend their dress rehearsal day(s) the week prior.

Yes, but we ask that you inform both, Alyssa Ditch, Dance Coordinator, and the Instructor, of your intention not to participate in the recital. This is so that a costume is not ordered and the instructor may choreograph the recital dance accordingly.  You may continue to take classes and will be given the experience of learning the recital dance even though you will not be participating in the recital.

The dance recital is held in May. The exact dates will be listed on the Pavilion Dance Centre calendar. The recital is held at the Harper College Performing Arts Center, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine. The Harper Performing Arts Center is a state of the art facility seating 450 people and is a resource that nurtures and educates community members about the arts. This unique building has an extensive fly system along with an orchestra pit, trap and stage extension. These characteristics enable the Harper Performing Arts Center to produce quality productions and allow the community an opportunity to experience exceptional artistic productions close to home!

In order to accommodate the large number of families wanting to view the dance recitals and to keep the shows at a reasonable length, the Pavilion Dance Centre has divided the recitals into colors. There are four divisions: Pink, Purple, Blue, and Green. Each color recital will have its own cast of performers and each show will run about an hour to an hour an a half in length. Each color will perform at a designated time during recital weekend; this time will be the same on both, Saturday and Sunday.

Please note: The Pavilion Dance Centre staff offers over 80 classes per week and cannot offer all levels each day and during prime time slots. Youth classes are given priority time with the more advanced and adult classes following. Many families with multiple children or children in multiple classes will likely participate in one or more recitals.

Recital tickets are available for purchase in early April. Each family (not each student) is guaranteed 8 tickets per color recital in which his/her class is performing. Tickets must be picked up in person from Pavilion Customer Service.  Extra tickets (if available) will go on sale a few weeks later.

Dress rehearsals are the week prior to recital at Harper College. You will be given the exact day and time for your class’s dress rehearsal when you receive your costume in May. Attending the dress rehearsal is mandatory. Students absent from the dress rehearsal will not perform in the recital. Late arrival to the rehearsal constitutes an absence; so please allow extra time to travel to Harper College. Classes will have an allotted amount of time to rehearse his/her dance on stage with the instructor and technical crew. During this time, technicians are queuing lights, instructors and staging the dance and all props and scenery are being set. All dances will run only once, due to the volume of participation in the program. Any repetition of a dance will be for technical reasons only.

The Pavilion Dance Centre has an agreement with All Occassions Video and therefore photography and video taping is strictly prohibited. Photography and Videotaping may be done only at the Dress Rehearsals within the designated areas. Because classes are scheduled to run each dance once, please be ready to video and photograph during this one run. The professional DVD’s may be ordered is the Spring or at the dress rehearsals and recitals.

Many people give flowers after a dance recital. The Shelia Ray Adult Center offers flowers for sale to be picked up at the recital for a nominal cost. Information to pre-order flowers will be sent out a few weeks before the recital. A limited amount of extra flower bouquets are available on the day of the recital, and therefore; you are encouraged to pre-order your flowers for convenient pick-up at recital.
